Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a new partnership with AI experts Hugging Face to help create the best development environment.
The non-exclusive partnership aims to make it easier to perform AI tasks using AWS, the largest cloud computing solution and cloud hosting supplier.
Unlike Google, Microsoft and OpenAI, which focus their attention on public chatbots, AWS hopes to work behind the scenes to provide the basic tools required to create this kind of technology.
AWS, face hugging and artificial intelligence
said Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue Reuters (opens in a new tab) that the next generation of open source AI Bloom will run on Trainium, an AI chip created by AWS.
Chips like Trainium are designed to be more efficient as they are tailored to AI workloads, which should help developers save time and money. In turn, AWS hopes to be able to open up the AI workload to even more developers.
“Building, training, and deploying large language and vision models is an expensive and time-consuming process that requires deep machine learning (ML) knowledge,” AWS said in a statement. “Because models are very complex and can contain hundreds of billions of parameters, generative AI is largely beyond the reach of many developers.”
Beyond that, AWS has a rich history of AI, largely centered around the Alexa voice assistant, but also a large AI model that’s designed to boost search efficiency on Amazon. The company hopes to build on this experience in a new partnership.
It is yet to be seen if other companies such as Google and Microsoft should be concerned about this partnership, however it is clear that Big Tech is gearing up for the upcoming AI-centric year.
